Sad news: Republica Press to close

Sad news: Republica Press to close

Last Monday morning I had the sad confirmation of news I’d already heard elsewhere, my publishers, Republica Press, are closing at the end of March.  The news made Eroticon bitter sweet, especially when, during the Publishers’ Panel I had to precis the “paypal issue” which, as I understand things, was the final decider for Republica to close up shop.

I was recommended to Republica by Monocle and was amazed that they would want to publish the mixed bag of scenes and short stories from my blog into an anthology.  While I’ve not been their most profilic or profitable writer the very fact I knew I could send them my work without having to change the essence of my writing to “fit” was wonderful and liberating and I was always humbled to housed with such talented writers as Monocle, Remittance Girl and T. R. Verten, writers whose work I admire and whose words move me.

My two books with Republica will be available until the end of March, after that Anthology One will be no more, though some of the stories in it may well go on to live in different anthologies that I have in mind and Normal will continue to be on sale somehow and somewhere.

I’ll close by saying “Thank you” to Emma and Aarron, for giving my writing a home and for giving a writer confidence.  Thank you.

Ruby

New release: Improve your erotica: A beginner’s guide to writing better smut

How to write eroticaA while ago a I put together a light-hearted article with my views on how beginner writers can improve their erotica.  The website it was destined for didn’t use it and it languished on my pc for a while.

Yesterday I found the perfect use for it, as a trial piece for self-publishing.

While I enjoy an excellent relationship with my own publisher, Republica Press, and am rather in awe of some of my stable mates, I’ve several friends who are very successful as self-publishers and I was curious to see how easy it was and what the results would be like.

So with very little fanfare and only a small amount of hair-pulling out I’ve published my first ebook.

You can find Improve your erotica: A beginner’s guide to writing better smut on Amazon in the UK and in the US and on Smashwords.

I was pleasantly surprised at how easy the whole process was and already learnt from my few mistakes.  I’ll definitely be adding more to my collection, but you’ll have to wait till I’ve got Eroticon 2012 all done and dusted first.

Thanks for reading,

Ruby x

Eroticon 2012 : The UK’s first sex blogger’s and erotica writer’s conference

Eroticon, the UK’s first sex blogger’s and erotica writer’s conference.

The conference idea came about after attending a blogging conference last year, I met up with a handful of other erotica writers and sex bloggers, but none of us were able to fully discuss our writing in the general atmosphere of the day.  I was left with the overriding belief that we needed our own conference, a day of inspiring sessions where we could learn, discuss and meet other writers in a safe and uplifting environment, with no fear of judgement or embaressment.

The tag line to Eroticon is “Writing sex right” and I’m working really hard to make sure that the session content for the day helps delegates to do just that, to create content of the highest quality.

So far I’m really excited by the line up of speakers that I’ve secured.  Every single one of them has been generous with their ideas, support and enthusiasm, and I hope they cross the range of familiar and new voices to be heard.  For myself I’m particularly keen to meet John Tisbury as I’m a huge fan of his erotic photography as well as Lori Smith and Zoe Margolis who’s writing  and gumption I enjoy.  I’m looking forward to meeting and drinking with Aisling Weaver and getting better aquainted with Molly Moore and Hazel Cushion: to name just a handful of the speakers.

I’m also working very hard to get some fantastic sponsors for the event as well as find the best in burlesque and erotic readings for the cocktail party.  With just four months to go its getting very exciting but I am officially freaking out from now until March 3rd.

So I’ll end with a little reminder to buy your tickets for what is shaping up to be the first and most awesome sex bloggers and erotic authors conference.

Normal : erotic ebook release

I’m so very excited to announce the release of my new erotic ebook, Normal.

Some of you may remember it from the episodes I posted here, but for those that don’t it is an erotic tale of Eddie, her mistress Madame and the mysterious Alain.

Eddie and her mistress spend their weekends soaked in sex; orgies and private parties exploring every facet of human sexuality, but is it enough?  When Eddie and Madame play with Alain he has a strange and unnerving effect on Eddie.  The encounter leaves her questioning her relationship with Madame and the life they lead.  Is it enough or is there more to life and sex?

Torn between the known and unknown, who and what will Eddie choose?

Normal BDSM erotica story
Although this is my second book book of erotica it is my first attempt at a longer story so I’m nervous as to how well it will be received.  I’d love to hear your feedback so do drop me a line via the contacts page or comments to let me know what you think.

You can buy Normal direct from Republica Press and later in the week it will be available for Kindle via Amazon, I hope you enjoy Eddie, Madame and Alain as much as they enjoy each other.

#EAACON : be radical, be yourself

I spent last Friday and Saturday at the Erotic Authors Association’s inaugural conference.

I came away with lots of positive information and inspiration for my writing and for Eroticon, however the main feeling I left with is that the most radical thing we can do or be is ourselves.

The session discussing taboos, of course covered the content that the mainstream do not want to see eroticised, however when talking about the negative criticism they received I was struck that it wasn’t so much that people were writing about disturbing or unacceptable acts, but that they were writing about sex at all.

And, that they dared write about sex and not be the correct colour, gender, sexual orientation, body shape or ability or whatever it is that might mark us as outside the normal mainstream of society.

What we write might touch on societies taboos, or even challenge an individuals own safe sexual awareness, but surely that’s been going on for centuries.

Surely what is most challenging, most radical is that we are, we write and we speak?

Too busy to tweet

Dear readers, tweeters, #wankwednesday participants, editor and friends, I know that I’m not around much at the moment and I’m sorry about that. I put up the #wankwednesday prompt, schedule the tweets for the week and then leave you to the auto-tweeter.

I know that isn’t much fun for you, it isn’t much fun for me either and lets not get into the fact I’m just not writing at the moment.  I miss you all.

But let me take a moment to explain.

As well as this site I also run my own business that has two websites associated with it, my personal blog, I also co-own the Word Ejaculation site and I’m trying to set up the Eroticon conference.  Believe me, none of these projects are getting the attention they deserve.  Let’s face it, just that little lot would be enough to keep anyone busy, but add to that the fact that I am bringing up my child alone, struggling to keep relationships civil with her dad while also trying to divorce him.  Then of course there is the house move, my landlord put my home up for sale so I had to find another, I’m very lucky to have done so, but I’m now trying to decorate that one while packing up this one.

So I hope you can see that something has to give and it had to be hanging out online, this goes for all of my blogs, websites and twitter and facebook accounts.  Sometimes its just too much.

To give attention, time and energy outwards on so many fronts is draining and sometimes I just need to hide out in my house without you all.

I’ll be back, I promise, its too much fun hanging out with you all not to be.

In the mean time do keep writing and joining in with #wankwednesday even if I don’t find time to.

Thank you kittens.

Ruby
